Lucas Glover continues to impress at the Barbasol Championship in Nicholasville, Kentucky. His remarkable streak of rounds in the 60s has now reached 10, and he has extended his lead to two shots after a solid 4-under 68 in the second round at Keene Trace.
Glover’s total score stands at an impressive 13-under 131, with Adam Long, Vincent Norrman, and Daniel Brown trailing as his closest competitors.
Notably, the 43-year-old golfer made a significant change two weeks ago by switching to a long putter during the Rocket Mortgage Classic. This decision has clearly paid off as he has consistently achieved sub-70 rounds since then. In fact, he secured an excellent fourth-place finish in Detroit and followed it up with an impressive tied-sixth position at the John Deere Classic last week.
In Friday’s round, Lucas Glover couldn’t replicate the putting performance he showcased during Thursday’s opening round of 63. Despite this, he managed to maintain a strong round, going 3-under through 14 holes before encountering his only bogey of the day on the par-4 sixth. However, he finished strongly with birdies on the last two holes.
The four-time PGA Tour winner attributed his struggles to ball-striking rather than putting. He admitted that his driving was below his usual standard, leading to difficulties in hitting enough fairways to set up close approach shots for low scores. Despite these challenges, he expressed contentment with his putting performance, although he acknowledged that he didn’t manage to sink many close putts during the round.
Adam Long and Vincent Norrman had similar scorecards in the second round. They both began on the back nine, making three birdies and two bogeys to turn in a 1-under 35. However, their performance improved on the front nine as they played bogey-free and recorded four birdies to shoot 67 for the round.
Notably, Adam Long is dealing with a neck injury while seeking his second PGA Tour win. He mentioned that the pain was more of a persistent dull ache that he could play through, unlike the sharp pain he experienced the previous day. Despite some minor mistakes, he remained positive about his round, considering the number of birdies he made.
In the second round, Daniel Brown, the Englishman competing on the European Tour, shot a solid 68. If he manages to secure a victory in this co-sanctioned event with the PGA Tour, he would earn a PGA Tour card, making the stakes even higher for him.
Brown expressed his determination to remain composed and calm throughout the tournament, especially as he approaches the back nine on Sunday. He knows that maintaining focus and composure will be crucial for giving himself the best chance to contend for the title.
Behind the leader, there is a group of four players who are three shots behind. Ryan Moore carded a 70, while three European Tour players, Jayden Schaper (66), Adrien Saddier (66), and Louis de Jager (65), are also within striking distance. With the competition still tight, the leaderboard promises an exciting and competitive finish.
